Suriname to implement new import procedures on November 1
Suriname will transition to new import and permit procedures starting November 1, following changes to the Negative List Decree. The current methods will remain in effect until October 31, 2026, to allow for the transition.
The Association of the Surinamese Business Community (VSB) has held discussions with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation (EZOTI) regarding various bottlenecks identified by businesses. Concerns center on the practical implementation of the new rules, which some argue are not yet sufficiently detailed to be applied without risk.
To facilitate the change, EZOTI is organizing information sessions for businesses and coordinating technical details, such as the application of HS codes, with Customs. The Suriname Electronic Single Window (SESW) will also be utilized. The VSB has emphasized the need for legal certainty and predictable procedures, noting that businesses—particularly smaller ones—require clear information before ordering or shipping goods to avoid administrative delays and unexpected costs.
