Suriname VHP MP calls for audit of state-owned enterprises

VHP Member of Parliament Cedric van Samson has called for a thorough investigation into the financial status and staffing of Suriname’s state-owned enterprises. He has urged President Jennifer Simons to conduct an audit to address concerns regarding excessive personnel and political appointments that may be straining company finances.

Van Samson specifically cited companies such as the Melkcentrale, Cevihas, and EBS. He noted that EBS currently employs approximately 1,300 workers, whereas he believes the company could function with only 600 staff members. He expressed concern that a lack of strategic planning and a potential mismatch between staffing levels and operational needs are impacting efficiency.

The lawmaker is questioning the government's recruitment policies, suggesting that these enterprises might be used to provide employment for political workers rather than hiring based on meritocracy. He emphasized that establishing a transparent hiring process is essential for improving efficiency and restoring public trust in the government.
