Suriname VP announces temporary pause in Council of Ministers meetings
Vice President Gregory Rusland has announced that regular meetings of the Council of Ministers (RvM) will be temporarily suspended for the next two weeks. Despite this pause, Rusland stated that government operations will continue as ministers remain engaged with ongoing matters and the preparation of key policy documents. The regular meeting schedule is expected to resume in the fourth week of September.
Currently, the government is prioritizing budget preparation. The Ministry of Finance's budget has been approved, initiating the process for inclusion in President Jennifer Simons' upcoming annual address, which is tentatively expected around September 30. Additionally, the administration is working on a multi-year development program.
To improve governance, the Cabinet of the Vice President is working to establish a monitoring unit by the end of the year. This unit will be responsible for tracking the implementation of decisions made by the Council of Ministers. The goal is to provide insight into progress and identify bottlenecks or delays in executing ministerial decisions, ensuring that policy actions move beyond mere administrative recording.
