Suriname water supply disrupted by pump station failure in Paramaribo
A technical failure at the Van Hattemweg water production station has caused a significant drop in water pressure and temporary interruptions for residents of Groot‑Paramaribo and Paramaribo‑Noord. The outage affected several pump wells that normally deliver about 1,000 cubic metres of drinking water per hour, also feeding the William Kraanplein station. Technicians from the Surinaamsche Waterleiding Maatschappij (SWM) and N.V. Energiebedrijven Suriname are working to restore production, but full pressure levels may take time to return.
SWM has apologised for the inconvenience and asked the public for understanding while repairs continue.
