Suriname's David Abiamofo elected to EITI board

Suriname's Minister of Natural Resources, David Abiamofo, has been elected as an Alternate Board Member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). The election took place in Brussels on October 6, 2026, ahead of the EITI Global Conference.

Abiamofo will serve a term from 2026 to 2029, representing the Latin America and Caribbean region alongside Guyana's Minister Vickram Bharrat, who was elected as a regular board member. Together, they will contribute to international decision-making regarding transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of revenues from the oil, gas, and mining sectors.

During the conference, Novella Alcantra-Majana, the national coordinator for EITI Suriname, received an honorable mention for her work. Additionally, Maria van der Hoeven, the former Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, was elected as the new international chair of the EITI board.
