Suriname's ECD investigates NG Electronics over exchange rate complaints
The Economic Control Service (ECD) is investigating NG Electronics on Leysweg following complaints regarding the application of an inflated exchange rate. During inspections conducted between October 12 and 14, 2026, staff were unable to produce a valid operating license. The owner, who was reportedly outside Paramaribo at the time, failed to respond to an official summons to report to the ECD, and subsequent attempts to contact the owner by telephone were unsuccessful.
The ECD also inspected a factory on Beekhuizenweg, where officials were similarly unable to present the required permits. This facility had previously been closed by the administrative service due to hygiene and safety deficiencies.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation (EZOTI) reminded business owners that a valid license or copy must be available on-site during inspections. Authorities have urged citizens to report suspicions of price gouging or smuggling via designated telephone and WhatsApp channels.
