Suriname's Heritage Month drives cultural festivals and regional trade fair

Vice President Gregory Rusland handed a financial gift to district commissioner Humphrey Jeroe on 4 August to support the Information, Promotion and Production Fair Boven‑Suriname 2026, scheduled for 29‑30 August in Atjoni. The two‑day fair aims to showcase the region’s culture, entrepreneurship and development opportunities, featuring local products, traditional dances, woodcarving, culinary demonstrations and information booths from government agencies and financial institutions.

At the Anton de Kom University of Suriname, a mini‑scientific congress and Heritage Fest were held on 7 August. President Jennifer Simons and Education Minister Dirk Currie addressed participants, emphasizing the role of cultural heritage in national cohesion. The fest offered food and drinks from diverse cultures, classroom displays of cultural artifacts, and announced plans for a Heritage Month report and increased government funding for research, arts and community projects in future editions.
