Surrey and Fremantle Cafes Close After Years of Operation

Ruex Cafe and Bar, an Australian‑style brunch venue in Surrey, British Columbia, announced its closure on July 31 after five years of service. Owner‑operator Jasmine Nijjar said the decision was bittersweet, and the space will be taken over by a new buyer. The cafe was known for its full Australian brunch menu, specialty coffee and cocktails, and had become a local favourite.

In Western Australia, GESHA Coffee Co. confirmed that its original Fremantle café will shut on August 10, ending an 11‑year run. Director Daniel Pano explained the move will concentrate the brand’s activities at its Bibra Lake headquarters, where it runs a roastery, espresso bar, sensory lab and barista training academy. The Fremantle location will continue to serve GESHA coffee under the new Bloom Cafe owners.
