Surrey, BC Opens Third Elite Field Hockey Turf at Tamanawis Park

Surrey, British Columbia inaugurated a third water‑based synthetic field hockey turf at Tamanawis Park on August 4, 2026. The new 64‑Avenue field, part of a $5 million project approved by Surrey council in January 2025, was funded with provincial gaming revenue and the Canada Community‑Building Fund. The complex, now the only field hockey venue in Canada with three elite‑level fields, is expected to draw national and international tournaments and boost the city’s sport‑tourism strategy.

Mayor Brenda Locke highlighted the investment’s role in creating opportunities for youth and high‑performance sport, while Councillor Gordon Hepner called the addition a “major milestone” for Surrey’s sport‑tourism plan. The total estimated investment in the park, including a planned $3.26 million fieldhouse, reaches about $8.2 million. Local clubs such as the Surrey Sharks and West Coast Kings use the facilities, and the venue previously hosted a free Canada‑USA men’s series.
