Surrey, Canada hosts International Picnic Day community picnics

Surrey, British Columbia celebrates International Picnic Day with a free outdoor gathering on Saturday, June 13 at Dominion Park in Newton, running from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The city’s website encourages families to "connect with friends, family and your community" and highlights music, a rock‑climbing wall, mini‑golf and other park activities.

The event is the first of a series of Thursday‑night community picnics held rain or shine at parks across Surrey throughout the summer, including Erma Stephenson Park (June 18), Forsyth Park (June 25), Chimney Heights (July 2), Fleetwood Park (July 9), Edgewood Park (July 16), Goldstone Park (July 23), Adams Road Park (July 30), Hawthorne Rotary Park (Aug 6), Maple Green Park (Aug 13), Strawberry Hill Park (Aug 20) and Guildford Heights Park (Aug 27).

Additional summer programs include “Park Play,” which lets residents borrow sporting equipment, join games and participate in themed activities; a Mobile Library offering over 1,000 items on wheels; and “Playful Places,” pop‑up games and installations at Surrey Civic Plaza, Hawthorne Square and a parklet on 137th Street. Community partners range from Approach Climbing and Bells & Whistles Mini‑Golf to local charities and the Surrey Police and Fire Services.
