Surrey civic election advance voting begins amid housing displacement concerns

Advance voting for the Surrey civic election is underway, with 10 voting locations open on specific dates including October 10. Chief Election Officer Gib van Ert noted that the number of advance voting sites has increased from six in 2022 to ten in 2026 to meet rising voter demand. In the previous election, approximately 30 per cent of electors utilized advance polling.

Amid the election cycle, residents of the Mayflower Co-op in Surrey have raised concerns regarding potential displacement. Members attended a mayoral debate to seek answers from candidates about a proposal to build a 24-storey rental tower in the Whalley neighbourhood. Residents claim that 92 families face the prospect of losing their homes due to the development plans involving BC Housing and the current administration.
