Surrey council approves Prologis lease and BRT plan changes

Surrey City Council authorized the city to move forward with a proposed long‑term lease of 36 acres of city‑owned land in Campbell Heights. The lease, negotiated with San Francisco‑based logistics real‑estate firm Prologis, would support a development of roughly 721,000 sq ft of industrial space and is projected to generate more than $1 billion in combined lease and property‑tax revenue over a 62‑year term, roughly doubling the city’s annual revenue from the property and creating hundreds of local jobs. Mayor Brenda Locke said the investment signals Surrey’s strategic location and strong transportation connections, while Prologis vice‑president Matt Brock highlighted the market’s infrastructure and growth potential.

In a related council action, Surrey approved amendments to the Semiahmoo Town Centre Plan to align with the revised King George Boulevard Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) terminus at 152 Street and 16 Avenue. The amendments update land‑use and road‑network maps, remove sections of 16A Avenue and 23A Avenue, and add a new lane to improve neighbourhood access. The changes are intended to support transit‑oriented development and accommodate the BRT station’s operational needs.
