Surrey Libraries operates mobile unit to increase community access
Surrey Libraries’ Mobile Library service is traveling throughout the community to provide residents with easier access to reading materials and library services. Launched in April 2024, the initiative aims to connect with individuals who may face barriers to reaching traditional brick-and-mortar branches.
The mobile unit carries more than 1,000 items and operates five to six days a week. Residents can use the service to browse and borrow books, obtain free library cards, return materials, and receive technology assistance. While many public stops at recreation centres and community locations occur on a monthly basis, the van also makes unadvertised visits to food banks and shelters to reach underserved populations.
