Surrey man convicted of second-degree murder in roommate stabbing
Paul John Martin, 48, has been found guilty of second-degree murder by the B.C. Supreme Court for the 2023 killing of his roommate, Robb Memory, 57. The incident occurred at a residence in the 19100-block of 68 Avenue in Surrey.
Evidence presented during the trial indicated that the two men were playing video games when an altercation took place. Martin stabbed Memory 23 times in the chest and upper back with a large knife. During the proceedings, Martin maintained that the attack was ‘a bad accident’ and claimed he ‘lost it’ after Memory allegedly taunted him about being bisexual.
Justice Barbara Norell delivered the verdict on September 18. A second-degree murder conviction in Canada carries an automatic life sentence. Martin is scheduled to appear in court on September 24 to establish a date for a sentencing hearing.
