Surrey man survives sepsis after Campylobacter infection from pub meal

Udhyam Amin, a 64-year-old man from Surrey, survived a life-threatening bout of sepsis and multi-organ failure caused by a Campylobacter infection. The infection was contracted after consuming a roast chicken dinner at a pub in February.

After seeking medical attention for suspected food poisoning, Mr. Amin was treated at St Helier Hospital in south London. His condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to a dangerous drop in blood pH and cardiac arrest. Doctors informed his family that he had only hours to live as his critical organs began to shut down.

Following two weeks in an induced coma and intensive care, Mr. Amin made a significant recovery. His daughter, Parisha Bains, described his survival as a miracle, noting that he had to relearn how to walk and speak. He has since returned to work.
