Surrey Memorial Hospital launches expanded dialysis centre

A new renal facility opened at Surrey Memorial Hospital on July 27, 2026, adding 21 hemodialysis treatment stations and increasing total capacity to 60 stations. The centre operates seven days a week and is expected to raise annual dialysis treatments from about 42,000 to roughly 65,000, serving patients south of the Fraser River.

The $85 million project was funded primarily by the British Columbia Ministry of Health, with a $1 million donation from the Surrey Hospitals Foundation. Health officials highlighted the need for expanded access: Minister of Health Josie Osborne said the facility will support a rapidly growing community, while Dr. Bradford Strijack stressed that “hemodialysis is not optional care.” Fraser Health President and CEO Dermot Kelly described the space as purpose‑built for patient comfort and dignity.

The opening is part of a broader health‑care expansion plan in Surrey, which includes new community services, a medical school at Simon Fraser University, and a future hospital and cancer centre in Cloverdale.
