Surrey Police launches undercover jogger operation

Surrey Police has launched the second phase of its ‘Jog On’ campaign, deploying plain-clothed female officers to pose as joggers to combat sex-based harassment. The initiative follows the reporting of 105 incidents of sex-based harassment between April and October 2026.

Under new legislation, intentional sex-based harassment is a specific offense punishable by up to two years in prison. Of the reported cases, 17 remain under investigation, two have resulted in charges under the new offense, one led to a charge for a different offense, and four were resolved through community resolutions.

The operation utilizes unpredictable patrol patterns across various locations in Surrey. Uniformed officers and support teams remain nearby to intervene if undercover officers are targeted. The campaign aims to identify harassment hotspots and ensure women and girls feel safe while exercising outdoors.
