Surrey resident demands enforcement against e-scooters on sidewalks

Robert Stierle, a 65-year-old Guildford resident with mobility issues, is calling for increased enforcement regarding illegal e-scooters, motorbikes, and bicycles on Surrey sidewalks. Stierle reports frequent collisions, threats, and physical assaults while walking, leading him to launch a Change.org petition titled ‘Take Back Our Sidewalks’.

While electric scooters are permitted on private property, they are prohibited on public roads, bike lanes, and sidewalks in Surrey. The Surrey Police and the City of Surrey have issued reminders regarding these restrictions and noted that provincial law requires riders to be at least 16 years old.

In response to growing safety concerns, Surrey Councillor Rob Stutt has urged the provincial government to develop a comprehensive regulatory plan for e-scooters across British Columbia.
