Surrey seeks project manager for new City Centre Arena
The City of Surrey has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to hire a project manager for the development of the City Centre Arena. The proposed 10,000-seat venue and event plaza is intended to serve as a landmark destination for sports, concerts, conventions, and cultural performances.
The project is envisioned as the centerpiece of a larger mixed-use Entertainment District, which is expected to include hotels, conference facilities, retail, restaurants, and office spaces. The Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants have been named as the anchor tenant for the facility.
Located at 104 Avenue and King George Boulevard, the arena plans resulted from a strategic land swap with Wesgroup Properties involving a former Safeway site. While championed by Mayor Brenda Locke, the project and land swap have faced criticism from opposing candidates in the upcoming October 17 civic election. The project is scheduled to begin a Concept Design Report this month, with the RFP closing on September 2.
