Surrey Six convict sentenced to two years for contempt of court
Cody Rae Haevischer, convicted in the 2007 Surrey Six slayings, has been sentenced to two years in jail for contempt of court. The sentence will be served concurrently with his existing life sentences. Justice Martha Devlin dismissed Haevischer’s application for a judicial stay of proceedings, ruling that his allegations of abuse of process had no “merit.” Haevischer had refused to answer questions during an evidentiary hearing, citing fears regarding the “inmate code” and potential violence within the prison population.
In a separate legal matter, a manslaughter trial for Sean Tiessen in the Grand Forks area has resulted in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict. Tiessen, who is facing charges related to the 2023 death of Joshua Lockwood, maintains he acted in self-defence. A scheduling appearance is set for September 8.
Additionally, in Sicamous, Sergeant Murray McNeil reported that “disturbing details” are emerging from ongoing murder trials in Kamloops involving the 2023 death of Wayne Silvio and the 2024 death of Jo Ann Jackson.
