Suruchi Phogat emerges as India's medal hope for Asian Games

Suruchi Inder Singh Phogat, a 20-year-old pistol shooter, has emerged as a prominent medal contender for India at the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. A junior world record holder and multiple ISSF World Cup gold medalist, Phogat’s rise in the sport is marked by a transition from an unknown 13-year-old from Sasroli village in Haryana to an elite international athlete.

Phogat began her training at the Guru Dronacharya Shooting Academy in Bhiwani, often traveling by local train without sponsorship or formal recognition. She has described her journey as a process of quiet transformation, noting that the sport requires intense mental discipline to control thoughts, breathing, and emotions during competition.
