Surveillance footage leads to recovery of missing 13-year-old girl
A 13-year-old girl who had been missing since September 24 was located safely on Saturday, September 26. The recovery was made possible through the integrated efforts of the Niterói Integrated Public Security Center (CISP), the Civil Police, and Rio de Janeiro's Civitas Rio intelligence unit.
Surveillance footage allowed authorities to reconstruct the girl's movements. After leaving her mother's workplace in Icaraí on the afternoon of the 24th, she was seen boarding a motorcycle voluntarily on Rua Gavião Peixoto shortly after 4:20 p.m. Monitoring cameras tracked the motorcycle through Avenida Marquês do Paraná and across the Rio-Niterói Bridge toward the capital.
By identifying the motorcycle's license plate, investigators linked the vehicle to a driver, who informed police that he had dropped the teenager off in the Penha neighborhood in Rio's North Zone. The teenager has been handed over to police authorities for necessary procedures.
