Survivor recounts Northern Cyprus ferry disaster

Emrah Temel, a survivor of the August 30 ferry accident in Northern Cyprus, has shared his account of the disaster 19 days after the incident. Temel described the moments leading up to the vessel capsizing, noting that passengers had requested the trip be canceled due to rough seas, but crew members reportedly insisted on continuing.

Temel recounted being trapped inside the vessel for approximately one hour as it took on water. He described a harrowing experience of helplessness as the ship began to tilt and fill with water, noting that the interior became slippery due to fuel leaks. Communication with the outside world was eventually established after some passengers managed to signal for help, leading to rescue efforts.
