Suryapet bus accident: 6 killed and 20 injured in Telangana
A private passenger bus collided with a container truck loaded with iron rods on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway in the Suryapet district of Telangana early Wednesday morning. The accident occurred near the Durgapuram stage in the Kodad mandal.
Reports indicate that the impact was severe, causing the iron rods to pierce through the front of the bus and into the passenger seating area. The collision resulted in at least six deaths, including five women, and left approximately 20 people injured. Some victims were reported to be in critical condition and were transferred to hospitals in Vijayawada for advanced medical care.
Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding or driver fatigue may have contributed to the crash. Police are also examining whether the truck had previously struck a road divider before being hit by the bus. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to ensure the injured receive optimal medical treatment. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has vowed to take strict action against negligent private travel operators to prevent future occurrences.
