Susan Sarandon claims loss of film roles due to Palestine advocacy
At the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, actress Susan Sarandon stated that she continues to lose film roles due to her outspoken support for Palestine. She alleged that certain talent agencies have discouraged filmmakers from hiring her, describing the situation as a result of the industry’s “power structure.”
Sarandon, who is promoting her new film “The Echo Chamber” directed by Andrea Pallaoro, noted that while she feels unwelcome within major Hollywood studios, she feels “welcome” internationally. She suggested that public perception regarding the historical relevance of Palestine and the financial ties between the United States and Israel has shifted significantly.
The actress previously faced professional repercussions in 2023 when United Talent Agency (UTA) severed ties with her following her participation in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Despite these challenges, she expressed gratitude to Pallaoro for casting her in his latest production, which is competing for the Golden Lion.
