Susanna Dell’Aquila wins Premio Calvino 2026 for short story “I malipensieri”
Susanna Dell’Aquila, a 29‑year‑old writer from San Ferdinando in Italy, was awarded the short‑story prize of the Premio Calvino 2026 at the Turin Book Fair. Her winning entry, “I malipensieri”, blends folklore, faith and superstition to explore the theme of unease chosen by the competition’s jury.
Dell’Aquila said the story grew from a conversation with her grandmother about a childhood anecdote involving a woman convinced her apartment was shrinking. She described the writing process as a “relay challenge”, beginning with a brief incipit that was later expanded into the full narrative. After the jury and public votes, she expressed gratitude for the recognition and the support of readers.
