Suseo-dong continues 16-year free hairdressing service for vulnerable residents

Suseo-dong in Gangnam-gu is continuing its long-standing free hairdressing service for vulnerable residents, including elderly people living alone and those with severe disabilities who have difficulty visiting hair salons.

Running for 16 years since its inception in 2010, the program is held once a month on the third Thursday at the Suseo Myeonghwa Community Welfare Center. Beyond providing professional services such as cutting and dyeing, the initiative serves as a way to check on the well-being of high-risk individuals to prevent social isolation and solitary deaths.

The service is supported by the ‘Clean Village Good Neighbor Volunteer Group,’ composed of school security officers who provide talent donations, and the Suseo Myeonghwa Community Welfare Center, which provides the venue and sponsorship. Suseo-dong Head Won Hye-gyeong expressed gratitude to the volunteers and partner organizations for their consistent dedication to the community.
