Sushiro restaurant faces food safety incident in Wuhan

A branch of the Japanese conveyor belt sushi chain Sushiro experienced a food safety incident at its Chuhe Han Street location in Wuhan, China, on October 24. A customer reported seeing a large live rat running across the sushi conveyor belt around 14:50.

Following the incident, staff informed the customer that kitchen ingredients had been discarded. While the restaurant initially continued service, it announced a temporary closure at 17:00 for cleaning. Management stated on October 25 that the facility had undergone thorough disinfection and reopened, claiming the rat had come from outside.

The customer involved received a complimentary meal and frozen mango as compensation, but other diners present during the incident reported they were not offered similar redress.
