Stein: Bangladeshi man arrested after dismembered body found in Rhine
A 43-year-old Bangladeshi man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a dismembered body in the River Rhine near Stein, Switzerland. The victim, a 33-year-old man from Burundi, had been reported missing on October 24, 2026.
The remains were discovered on October 25 by three individuals who found a bag containing a human leg in the water. Subsequent police searches involving divers led to the recovery of additional body parts deposited in garbage bags both in the river and along the shore.
Investigators from the Aargau cantonal police conducted searches at a nearby asylum center where the suspect and the victim shared a room. Authorities stated that evidence gathered during these searches corroborated suspicions against the roommate. The public prosecutor has requested pre-trial detention for the suspect.
At this stage, officials have stated there is no evidence suggesting the homicide was motivated by political or religious reasons. The suspect has reportedly shown signs of psychological disorders, which investigators are currently examining.
