Suspect arrested after shooting shop owner in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district

On 24 June, Berzan K entered a mobile phone shop in the İnönü neighbourhood of Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, disguised as a courier. He approached shop owner Çetin Aktürk, demanded to sign documents, and opened fire, wounding Aktürk in the chest. Despite rapid medical attention, Aktürk later died in hospital.

Police investigations linked the attack to a personal vendetta over the 2025 killing of Görkem Bedir, whose death Berzan K claimed to avenge. After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and attempted to escape abroad, planning to travel by bus to Edirne and then by truck across the border. He was intercepted at the 15 July Martyrs Bus Terminal in Bayrampaşa, where a police officer on leave recognized him from surveillance footage. Alongside Berzan K, a second suspect, Osman U, who was alleged to have assisted with the planning, was also detained. Both men have been transferred to judicial authorities.

The case highlights the use of disguises to facilitate violent revenge attacks and the swift police response that prevented the suspect's international flight.
