Suspect arrested in Gülay Polat murder in Istanbul's Kartal district

Police solved the murder of Gülay Polat, whose body was found in an abandoned gecekondu in Istanbul's Kartal district. Investigators traced the crime to her coworker Erkan K., who was seen on security footage leaving the scene shortly after a dispute.

Forensic analysis showed Polat was strangulated with a cable and her neck broken. Gold bracelets and a personal identification tag were removed from the corpse and later processed at two jewelry shops. Erkan K. confessed, stating the robbery began after an argument, and that he fled the area, rented a car, and drove to Kocaeli before being apprehended. He has been detained pending trial.

The case, which combined homicide with robbery, concluded with the suspect's arrest and the recovery of the stolen items, bringing closure to the victim's family and highlighting coordinated police work in the district.
