Suspect in Vally Amisi murder arrested in Brazzaville, DRC says

On 2 August 2026, Democratic Republic of the Congo Justice Minister Guillaume Ngefa announced the arrest in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, of Mukena Mwepu Benie, a suspect in the April 2026 killing of Congolese sports entrepreneur Vally Amisi. Amisi, a vice‑president of the Nouvelle Vie Bomoko FC club and businessman residing in South Africa, was found dead behind the Béatrice Hotel in Kinshasa’s Beach Ngobila area. Video surveillance identified Benie as the main suspect, who fled the scene. The arrest results from judicial cooperation between the DRC and the Republic of Congo, and procedures to transfer the suspect to Kinshasa are under way, with authorities emphasizing respect for the law, fundamental rights and the presumption of innocence. The government reiterated its commitment to combat impunity and uphold the rule of law, noting that several other arrests have already been made in the investigation.
