Suspended Catholic priest found training for Ghana Police Service

The Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong has announced that Rev. Fr. Samuel Adapore has been located at the Police Training Centre in Koforidua, Eastern Region. The priest, who had been under indefinite suspension from sacred functions, reportedly enrolled at the centre as a private individual of his “own and singular volition” to train for the Ghana Police Service.

His disappearance and subsequent suspension from liturgical duties, including celebrating Mass, had sparked public debate and social media criticism. Some observers questioned whether the Diocese had sufficiently investigated his welfare and respected his rights under Canon Law before imposing disciplinary measures.

The Diocese responded by stating that its disciplinary actions and its responsibility for the priest's welfare are not mutually exclusive. Officials clarified that the suspension was a canonical decision intended to address his unauthorized departure from his pastoral assignment and to ensure the spiritual needs of parishioners were met.
