Civitas Appenninica launches bid for European Capital of Culture 2033

A convention was signed in Rome to launch the “Civitas Appenninica Vetusta Nursia – Ex Malo Bonum. Rinascita Appenninica, la Cultura che Ricostruisce” project. This initiative supports the candidacy of the Civitas Appenninica for the title of European Capital of Culture 2033.

Promoted by the 2016 Earthquake Extraordinary Commissioner Structure, the project aims to pair the physical reconstruction of earthquake-affected territories with a process of cultural, social, and civil regeneration. The network involves 138 municipalities, 11 banking foundations, 13 universities, and research centers across the regions of Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche, and Umbria.

The project focuses on community involvement, training, and building new national and European networks. The expression of interest for the candidacy is expected by 2027, with the official call anticipated in 2028.
