Sustainability awareness grows in Portugal despite action gaps
A study by the Behavioral Insights Unit at Católica-Lisbon SBE reveals that sustainability is no longer a marginal issue in Portugal, with 79.5% of respondents stating it is important that products do not harm the environment.
However, there is a gap between environmental awareness and practical action. While 82.8% of participants are familiar with the Volta packaging return system, 35.5% report never using it. Researcher João Paz notes that while sustainability is a widely shared value, it often serves as a general consumption orientation rather than the primary deciding factor at the moment of purchase.
