Sustainability initiatives expand through composting and recycling in Argentina

Sustainability initiatives are being expanded in various Argentine regions through community composting and enhanced recycling programs.

In Villa María, an environmental project supported by Aguas de Villa María and Cooperativa 15 de Mayo is promoting community composting during mass events like MECA 26. The initiative uses specialized containers at the Sociedad Rural Villa María to collect organic waste, such as yerba mate, fruit peels, and paper napkins. The goal is to process these materials into compost over a period of 6 to 9 months, educating the public on sustainable waste disposal.

In Viedma, the municipality is strengthening its waste management policies by expanding recycling circuits and promoting separation at the source. The city has installed recycling stations and yellow bins in strategic locations to encourage the community to deposit clean, dry recyclables. Accepted materials include plastics (PET and polymers), glass bottles and jars, and paper or cardboard, all of which must be free from moisture and grease to ensure efficiency in the local integrated solid waste management system.
