Sustainability initiatives highlighted through construction and art in Brazil

In Chapecó, a 28-story construction project is implementing a Zero Waste strategy to minimize environmental impact. The development, which includes commercial spaces and apartments, utilizes a Solid Waste Management Plan to separate materials such as raw construction supplies and worker food waste into dedicated bays for weekly collection and recycling.

The project aims to achieve official Zero Waste certification from the Zero Waste Institute of Brazil, a standard that recognizes companies that prioritize recycling, reuse, and composting. Approximately 70 workers are undergoing training to ensure proper waste management protocols are followed throughout the construction process.

In São Paulo, the Farol Santander is hosting ‘Elos’, an art exhibition by the duo Pirilampos do Planeta. The installation features nine large-scale artworks created from four tons of discarded plastic, including acrylic cups, packaging, and lids. The exhibition, curated by Lara Maia, uses these materials to create immersive environments that provoke discussion regarding consumerism and the lifecycle of daily waste.
