Spanish municipalities propose various waste management and sustainability reforms

Various Spanish municipalities are implementing or proposing new measures to improve sustainability and waste management. In Igualada, Esquerra Republicana has proposed recovering the Anoia riverbank, expanding electric vehicle charging networks, and creating a plan to combat energy poverty.

In Amposta, the local council approved a waste prevention plan featuring 26 actions to improve recycling rates, which have stagnated for over a decade. Meanwhile, Palafrugell has approved a collaboration agreement with Lloret de Mar to manage municipal waste until 2029 at an estimated cost of 3.5 million euros.

In Terrassa, the 2027 budget of 283.6 million euros was approved following negotiations between the local government and the PSC, with a focus on freezing taxes. Additionally, the Association of Catalan Municipalities (ACM) is calling for increased funding from both companies and the Generalitat to meet the requirements of new waste legislation.
