Sustainability shifts from compliance to strategic business driver

Global business priorities are shifting from purely financial metrics toward a model that integrates sustainability, inclusivity, and digital trust to build geopolitical leverage and resilience. Organizations are increasingly viewing sustainability not merely as a compliance requirement, but as a strategic driver for competitiveness, risk management, and value creation.

In Europe, the sustainability framework is undergoing a reset. Following debates regarding the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and the phased implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), businesses are seeking greater clarity. Research indicates that integrating sustainability into core business strategies and product portfolios has become a leading priority for executives, surpassing the mere production of external disclosures.

Data shows a significant increase in corporate action: 66% of organizations have increased efforts regarding supply-chain transparency and risk management, up from 53% last year. Additionally, investment in sustainability and risk management software has risen from 19% to 36%. Despite this momentum, concerns remain regarding the quality of reporting, as some studies suggest that increased disclosure volume has occasionally led to reports that are less quantitative and more promotional.
