Sustainable agricultural workshops held in Mexico
Various educational initiatives focused on sustainable agriculture and biological pest control were conducted in Mexico.
At the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (ICA) of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), a workshop explored the ecological potential of Coccinella septempunctata, commonly known as the seven-spot ladybug. Led by experts including Dr. Carlos E. Ail Catzim and Dr. Henry López López, the session covered taxonomic identification, internal anatomy, and reproduction techniques to promote the use of ladybugs as biological control agents to reduce chemical dependency in Mexicali Valley agroecosystems.
In Coahuila, the Third Exchange of Ecological Garden Experiences took place in the community of Jaboncillos Grande, Ocampo. Organized by the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp), the event brought together rural producers and environmental engineering students from the Tecnológico Nacional de México. Participants shared knowledge on pest control, the preparation of bio-inputs, vermicomposting, and bio-intensive gardening to strengthen sustainable food production and natural resource management.
