Sustainable laundry practices and DIY detergent workshops
New initiatives and expert advice are highlighting ways to reduce costs and environmental impact through sustainable laundry practices. A workshop hosted by Anke van Dijk of Climatechain offers participants the opportunity to learn how to create their own laundry detergent and fabric softener. Research indicates that homemade alternatives can be 80% to 95% cheaper than commercial products.
Additionally, laundry experts suggest that many garments labeled ‘dry clean only’ can actually be washed at home with proper care. While manufacturers often provide conservative labeling to avoid liability, many fabrics like wool and cashmere can be safely cleaned using specific machine programs or hand washing with mild detergents.
