Sustainable living and self-build housing trends in the Netherlands

Individuals in the Netherlands are adopting various sustainable and self-sufficient living practices, ranging from home modifications to custom construction.

In 's-Gravenzande, Annemarie van Geest has implemented several eco-friendly measures in her household. These include installing energy-saving bathroom fixtures, improving window insulation, and a phased installation of solar panels. Her family also focuses on regional food consumption, rainwater usage for gardening, and repurposing old clothing and electronics.

In Almere Oosterwold, Anne Blum and Sander Grooten are engaged in a self-build project to construct a wooden semi-detached house. The couple, working alongside friends, is managing much of the construction themselves. While building, the family resides in a temporary wooden hut equipped with a wood stove, surrounded by fruit trees and vegetable gardens.
