Sustainable motorsport events held in Spain
Recent eco-rally events in Spain have highlighted the shift toward sustainable mobility and energy efficiency in motorsport.
The MAHLE Eco Rally in the Valencian Community, a pioneer in the field with a 14-year history, focuses on driving efficiency rather than speed. Participants compete to optimize vehicle consumption, making it a test of energy management rather than traditional racing velocity. The event also incorporates environmental actions, such as carbon footprint compensation and tree planting initiatives in collaboration with the Castellón City Council.
In Catalonia, Circutor organized the ECO Rally Cat Central – Trofeo Circutor. The 250-kilometer competition featured nine vehicles, including seven fully electric models and two hybrids. Participants navigated eight timed stages, aiming to follow a specific roadbook while maintaining assigned average speeds and minimizing energy consumption. The event emphasized the coordination between driver and co-driver to achieve maximum vehicle performance through regular and efficient driving.
