Sustainable Theatre Production 'Burger Koekoek' Opens at Limburg Festival in Neer

The theatre group Burger Koekoek performed its new show "Hoe vind je zelf dat het gaat?" on 12 August at the Limburg Festival, using the wind turbine De Coöperwiek in Neer as a green stage. The production, created as a fully sustainable performance, combined music, humour and a narrative about the climate crisis while minimizing its environmental footprint.

Energy cooperative Zuidenwind, which owns the turbine, partnered with the festival to provide clean electricity for the event and to demonstrate how culture and renewable energy can reinforce each other. Guul Smeets, the chairman of Zuidenwind, said the collaboration shows that “culture and co‑operatives have the same goal: to bring people together and showcase local sustainability.” Proceeds from the show are reinvested in community projects, aligning with Zuidenwind’s aim of a future‑proof regional energy model.
