Sustainable weight loss methods and monitoring strategies

Experts recommend a sustainable approach to weight loss centered on a moderate caloric deficit, sufficient protein intake to preserve muscle mass, and regular physical activity. A safe and realistic weight loss rate is identified as between 0.5 and 1 kilogram per week. Losing weight faster than this increases the risk of sarcopenia—the loss of muscle mass—which can lower resting calorie expenditure and increase the likelihood of weight regain.

To ensure accurate monitoring, health professionals suggest that weighing oneself daily is unnecessary and can lead to obsession. Instead, weighing once a week or every fifteen days is sufficient, provided it is done under consistent conditions. Experts advise against weighing on Mondays, as weekend meals high in salt, sugar, and fats can cause water retention that skews results. Thursday or Friday are suggested as more reliable days for consistent tracking.
