SustainMed 2.0 project targets hospital sustainability via digitalization
The SustainMed 2.0 project, funded by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy Baden-Württemberg, is working to implement sustainable solutions within hospitals and companies. The initiative aims to identify best practices using digital tools to make them accessible to clinics throughout Germany. By networking clinics, businesses, and policymakers, the project seeks to reduce resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
There is a significant need for action in the sector, as an average German clinic produces approximately eight tons of waste daily and accounts for about five percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Christian Becker, a Cross Industry Transformation Professional at FREESIXTYFIVE, discussed the role of digitalization in this transition, focusing on how new technologies and data can be converted into usable solutions for hospital sustainability.
