SustainMed 2.0 project targets sustainability in German hospitals

The SustainMed 2.0 project, supported by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy Baden-Württemberg, is working to implement sustainable solutions within hospitals and companies. The initiative aims to identify and share best practices using digital tools to help clinics across Germany reduce resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

In Germany, the healthcare sector is responsible for approximately 5-6% of national greenhouse gas emissions. To address this, the project facilitates exchange between clinics, businesses, and policymakers. As part of a series of expert interviews, Kay-Uwe Schulze, Head of Purchasing and Logistics at BG Klinik Tübingen, discussed the strategic and operational role of procurement in ensuring the availability and quality of medical products while managing logistical supply chains.
