Japan youth sports: Athletics registration controversy and football tournament progress

In Japanese youth sports, two distinct developments have emerged. First, track and field coach Susumu Hara has criticized the Japan Athletics Federation's decision to bar eight middle and high school athletes from the JOC Junior Olympic Cup. The athletes, selected as Osaka representatives, are unable to compete because the Osaka Junior High School Physical Education Association failed to submit entries within the required period. Hara argued that while administrative rules are important, penalties should be directed at the organization rather than the innocent athletes, warning that such decisions could discourage young talent from choosing athletics.

In football, the Chiba Prefecture men's youth team has advanced to the semi-finals of the National Sports Festival. Following a strong 3-0 victory over Yamagata Prefecture, the team secured its first appearance in the final four in eight years. Forward Eita Degawa scored a goal during the match, contributing to a performance that saw Chiba overcome early tournament challenges to pursue their goal of a national championship.
