SUTEF union proposes 3.1 million peso salary for teachers in Tierra del Fuego

The SUTEF union has proposed that teachers in Tierra del Fuego should earn approximately 3.1 million pesos to reflect the actual cost of living in the province. Union leader Rottaris noted that current salaries hover around 1.3 million pesos, a figure she claims is significantly below what is necessary to cover basic needs.

To determine this figure, SUTEF collaborated with the MATE consultancy to analyze nine essential categories, including housing, food, transport, health, and social security. Rottaris highlighted the disproportionate impact of local prices on family incomes, specifically citing the high cost of meat, fruits, and vegetables. She warned that many families are facing increased debt to afford basic nutrition.

A meeting is scheduled at the Casa de Gobierno to begin discussions regarding these parameters and to evaluate the government's counter-proposals.
