Sutna union calls for march to Plaza de Mayo over FATE factory closure

Six months after the closure of the FATE tire factory in San Fernando, the Sindicato Único de Trabajadores del Neumático Argentino (Sutna) has called for a march to Plaza de Mayo on Wednesday, August 26.

During a demonstration held in front of the plant, Sutna General Secretary Alejandro Crespo claimed the factory is not in financial crisis but is instead experiencing an “employer lockout.” Crespo stated that the facility maintains positive balances, functional machinery, and available raw materials. The union is demanding the reopening of the plant, which left 920 workers unemployed when it ceased operations on February 18.

The protest also follows a judicial ruling where the Chamber of Cassation rejected an eviction request against the workers. The mobilization aims to advocate for the reopening of the factory and broader protections for national industry, public education, health, and pensions.
